celebrating the bold lines and unique aesthetic of modern mansards
Sunset Hills Mansard 1
'Nothing but Mansard' is just one of the comments blogger Toby Weiss had to say about this mansard on his blog B.E.L.T. He even goes so far as to compare it to Cousin Itt! Poor mansard.
Modern Mansard is a blog that celebrates the modern revival of the mansard roof. The roof style was originally popularized by François Mansart in 17th century France and enjoyed a revival in the late 19th century. The mansard's most recent evolution occurred in the 1970s when the 'modern mansard' as I refer to it (also lovingly referred to as 'mushroom houses' by many) was born and became part of the 1970s design aesthetic.
Although I do not own a modern mansard myself, I am one of the many admirers around the world and enjoy collecting images and stories of extraordinary mansards here on this blog.
